Help us kick off this year's Family Read! Make a family story album with the help of our friends at YpsiWrites and Detroit Free Press, visit our Polaroid booth, make clay fortune cookies, and more.
This year's Family Read is Maizy Chen's Last Chance by Lisa Yee, a National Book Award Finalist and winner of the Newbery Honor and Asian/Pacific American Literature Awards. Join us to kick off a month of programming centered around the book, then meet the author virtually for a conversation led by our Tween Book Group on April 15, 3pm.
At the kickoff, make a family story album with the help of volunteers from the Detroit Free Press, YpsiWrites, and 826michigan. Visit art and writing stations to build your story, and get your photo taken with a Polaroid, just like in the book. You can add it to your story. Make clay fortune cookies and use a typewriter to write positive messages to go inside to spread a bit of happiness. Eat real fortune cookies, too!
Find activities related to the event you can do at the library, or at home, on our Maizy Chen's Last Chance web page. Read, learn, talk, create!
